Sadly, a lot of your German experience boils down to your house and who owns it.   I've met a lot of people who've been miserable because of a problematic house and an unresponsive and even dishonest landlord.  Though our legal and housing offices do their best, they can't always solve every issue that comes up. Getting there:   The best ways to get to the Cinque Terre is by boat or by train.  The road linking these 5 towns is narrow and windy and there is little to no parking available for tourists in the towns themselves.  This is especially true during the tourist season.

Germany's parliament has passed a new law that mandates the use of winter or all-season tires when there is "black ice, snow, sluch, ice or frost on German roads."  These tires should be clearly marked by the manufacturer with a snowflake logo or the M+S symbol meaning mud and snow (matsch und schnee). Will I be able to get pumpkins in Germany? Yes!  Pumpkins and squash abound in the farming region of Germany during the months of September and October (though by Thanksgiving they are gone).  In fact, I've seen  more variety of squash here than in the states which is funny to me since the Germans don't eat as many of them as we do.  They eat spaghetti squash and butternut and not much else.

The Drive: From Salamanca to Felguiras, Portugal = 3.5 hours.  From Oporto (Porto) to Felguiras = 40 minutes. I never heard of this castle while I lived there, but it looks really pretty and is just south of Aachen on the Belgium side of the border.  Their website has an English translation, but all the details including upcoming events are only printed in German on the German version of the website.  It's not difficult to navigate though.
